Red Wings look to ink deal with city

Tonight’s Elliot Lake council meeting is important to the city’s Junior A hockey team, the Red Wings.

City Council will review a bylaw stipulating the terms for use of the Centennial Arena.

Special Projects Manager, Steve Antunes says the team had an agreement in place that expired in 2019.

He says the new bylaw stipulates the cost of ice time, access to storage and locker facilities, as well as a COVID safety program.

Antunes says the team has already agreed to the terms and repayment of the outstanding $50,000 loan.

He adds council will also have to decide to purchase a platinum sponsorship valued at $10,000 offset by the cost of ice time as well as advertising stipulations.

If accepted, the deal expires on April 30th, 2026.
