Espanola man facing a number of charges after shouting expletives at a police officer

Shouting explicit words at a police officer, while circling his cruiser on a bike, is landing a 24-year-old Espanola man in hot water. It happened last Thursday, just before midnight. The accused allegedly shouted words like “pig” at the officer. The officer then got out of his car to tell the man he was riding his bike illegally, as it didn’t have a light on it at night. Turns out he was drinking, which a probation banned him from doing.

When the officer tried to arrest him, he took off on foot. He had to be wrestled to the ground in order to be arrested. When his friends started taunting the officer while trying to rush them, the police showed their tasers without using them, which caused them to back off.

The accused now has a court date in the fall.
