Algoma Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha is very critical of Monday’s Liberal budget. The budget is the same one the Liberals introduced in May which triggered the spring election giving them a majority. Mantha says part of the budget deals with selling major assets, like the LCBO and OPG. He says taxpayers spent billions creating these agencies and selling them is wrong-headed and short-sighted because they generate revenue. Mantha says the budget needs to be re-worked because it’s going to result in massive layoffs. He says during the election, the Liberals criticized the Tories for wanting to reduce public sector jobs, but now they’re doing the same thing. The new Democrat also says the budget does nothing to bring down high electricity rates. The NDP have compared the budget to history’s Trojan Horse where the Greeks snuck into Troy by hiding in a huge wooden horse and then defeated the Trojans. Mantha says like the Trojan Horse, the Liberal budget will sneak in many pitfalls that will hurt a lot of people.
