Espanola Council has approved the funding of two road projects in connection to Espanola housing development.
Town clerk/CAO Joseph Burke asked council to approve funding a contribution of $716,800 to the Yusko Crescent Extension for road and related infrastructure, and another $820,000 for the construction of a road between McKinnon Drive and Mead Boulevard.
Burke says the funds will come from the Housing Accelerator Fund, approximately $2 million that has been provided by upper government to accomplish its Housing Action Plan to meet the town’s housing target of 100 new units by the end of 2028.
Council unanimously approved the expenditure, and the town will now put together the development agreements for the projects to move forward soon.
He adds both developers, Olivadel and Excel, have already invested significant dollars in the town with various housing projects and both projects are shovel ready as part of the Town’s strategy in expanding its urban service boundary in August.
Burke says the two projects will provide a variety of housing with up to 80 units being built within the next one to two years, as part of these two projects.
