New agreement for sharing fire services – regional fire chief named

The Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers and the Town of Espanola have entered into an agreement for a shared fire administration.
In a joint release, the municipalities state with growing expectations of municipal fire departments for training, reporting and certification, the two are securing the long-term sustainability of their Fire Departments by coming together to put in place a more comprehensive administration made possible through cost sharing.
Phase 1 of the agreement involves the hiring of a full-time Regional Fire Chief who will assume Fire Chief responsibilities for both Departments respectively.
Jamie Ramsay, currently a volunteer and Assistant Chief with the Espanola Fire Department has been selected as the new full-time Regional Fire Chief and will start on September 15th.
Phase 2 of the agreement involves the development of a second full-time leadership role as a deputy chief with that role to be filled by early next year.
