Elliot Lake mayor Dan Marchisella says constant rumours about various shenanigans in the community is what prompted City Hall to create the Information Refinery.  The tool is the City`s way to dispel rumours and misinformation.  Marchisella says rumours would start innocently enough, but then grow, creating the need for the Information Refinery tool.

He says a recent example involves thousands of pieces of artwork from White Mountain the City disposed of a while back and somehow people got the impression the art was on its way back to Elliot Lake.  Marchisella said nothing in the council resolution came close to suggesting the art was returning to the City.  Marchisella says there are limits to how staff can respond to rumours.

For example, he says they won`t be able to go into details about in-camera debates without breaking confidentiality rules.    Marchisella also says people don`t have to be hesitant in posting rumours for fear of being identified.  The mayor says nothing on the site asks the person to leave their name, so anonymity is guaranteed.  To post a rumour, go to the City`s website at www.cityofelliotlake.com and click the Information Refinery box on the homepage.
