Huron-Superior Board implementing recommendations to help the classroom

The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board will be implementing several recommendations to compensate for the loss of 70 educational assistants next school year.
Education superintendent Franca Spadafora says until recently, funding from Indigenous Services Canada – through Jordan’s Principle – helped the school board staff 74 EAs, which in turn supported Indigenous and non-Indigenous students alike at its schools.
However, she adds that funding has been reduced.
Spadafora says their special ed committee made 18 recommendations to the board, including bringing in a specialized teacher to help students with vision impairments, incorporating assistive technology into each and every classroom, and providing training to teachers on that tech.
She adds she will be keeping the board updated as the cuts and recommendations roll out.
