FedNor funding supports cruise ship associations

A cruise ship association on Manitoulin Island and another in Algoma are two of six recipients of FedNor funding announced by Sault Ste. Marie MP Terry Sheehan at a gathering in the Sault yesterday.
He says FedNor is providing just over $677,000 for the six projects in support of the tourism industry in the Algoma region.
He says the Great Lakes Cruise Association out of Little Current is receiving $225,000 to support the implementation of a tourism product development strategy, including the development of shore excursion opportunities, a buy-local program, the development of the “Great Lakes Menu”, as well as port branding and infrastructure upgrades.
Sheenan adds the Algoma Kinniwabi Tourism Association is receiving $35,500 to support their Algoma Country Cruise Ship Readiness Plan, specifically identifying potential tourism assets and coordinating with cruise ship tour operators.
He says the rest of the funding will be shared with the city of Sault Ste. Marie, Destination Northern Ontario, Ontario Culture Days, and the Ontario Maple Syrup Producers Association.
