Blind River and Espanola have tough weekend of play

Soaring from the on-set, the Soo Eagles struck four times in the first period and saw Mason Burkes go on to post his initial Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout as part of a 7-0 victory over the Espanola Paper Kings in a penalty-filled match-up Friday at Pullar Stadium.

Samuel Assinewai scored twice, including picking up the game-winner, and added an assist to propel the Greater Sudbury Cubs to a 6-1 victory over the Paper Kings Saturday in a meeting at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex.

Posting a second straight shutout, the Soo Eagles soared past the Blind River Beavers 8-0 in a Saturday slot on the schedule at Pullar Stadium.

Responding from that one-sided setback Saturday, the Beavers bounced back to defeat the French River Rapids 7-0 Sunday in a get together at Noelville Arena.
