Work on Highway Six – Centre Street in Espanola set for next year

Espanola council is expected to give its approval to a contract recommended by the Environmental Services and Special Projects department to complete the next phase of the reconstruction of a major part of Highway Six – Centre Street in Espanola.

Department Manager Joel Yusko will meet with council tonight to discuss the contract for the final design for the highway from RVA, the company which has worked on various Connecting Link projects in Espanola.

Yusko says they received funding approvals from upper government in the Spring for the construction but it was too late in the year to go to tender and get the project underway in 2024.

He says RVA’s submission for design and contract administration is estimated at $423,500 with $102,500 to be spent this year, the remainder early next year.

If council approves the contract, Yusko adds construction will go ahead in early 2025 for the section of Center Street from Station Road to Tudhope Street in Espanola’s downtown.

The grant application estimated the project to be valued at $5,223,103 (not including HST) with an estimated design and contract administration fee of $370,000 (not including HST).

RVA’s submission for design and contract administration is valued at $423,500 and breaks down as follows:

Design updates $10,500

2024 Traffic Signal Design $60,000

2024 Electrical Design $20,000

2024 Tendering $12,000

2024 Site Review $190,000 2025

Contract Administration $66,000 2025

As-Builts $10,000 2025

Materials Testing $55,000

2025 $423,000 (not including HST)

For clarity, as part of RVAs work, they support staff in preparing the tender for the project and a further approval comes to Council for the awarding of the tender.
