Ontario honours paramedics – local paramedic presented Ontario Medal for Paramedic Bravery

The Ontario government honoured 11 paramedics with the Ontario Medal for Paramedic Bravery Monday night and among those was a member of the Manitoulin-Sudbury District Services Board.

The medal is given to paramedics who have demonstrated great courage risking their lives to save the lives of others, and Sarah Stagg was one of the recipients.

Officials share last June, Stagg was off duty when she was awoken by commotion and screaming outside her home.

She immediately called 9-1-1 and assessed the scene, seeing two victims lying on the sidewalk.

Officials say she then bravely exited her home and began life-saving measures on one of the unresponsive victims, all while gathering information of the assailants form the second injured victim, relaying it to 9-1-1.

Despite her best efforts, the first victim died, but the second, who was taken into emergency surgery, eventually made a full recovery.
