Elliot Lake man arrested on gun charges

East Algoma OPP has arrested an Elliot Lake man on gun-related charges.

Constable Phil Young says last Sunday evening officers were called in investigate a report of a man with a gun at an apartment complex on Dunn Road in Elliot Lake.

He says the complainant reported a verbal argument ensued between numerous people in the parking lot with one man pointing a handgun at another person and making threats while doing so.

Young says the handgun was taken from the man who then ran off, but police found him a short time later at a residence on Lauzon Crescent and an arrest was made.

He says the 32-year-old man from Elliot Lake has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, and three breach charges.

He adds the accused was remanded into custody following a bail court in Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday.
