Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha removed from NDP caucus – undergoing investigation

The MPP for the Algoma-Manitoulin riding has been removed from the Ontario NDP’s caucus.

Earlier today, the NDP notified the public that Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Michael Mantha has been removed from the caucus and will sit as an Independent MPP as alleged workplace misconduct is investigated.

NDP Leader Marit Stiles says a third party is handling the investigation into the allegations against Mantha and the NDP is keeping certain information private to protect the identity of the individual who made it.

Stiles took over as the party’s leader in early February.

Mantha, who’s held the riding since 2011, has been on a leave from his MPP duties attending to his regular legislative duties for the last time on December 8th.

Mantha was the official Opposition critic for natural resources, mines, and Ring of Fire issues until Stiles reorganized the roles last week with Mantha’s portfolio reduced to mines alone.

Mantha is the first MPP that Stiles has removed from the NDP caucus as its leader leaving 30 members in the official Opposition caucus.

The Moose has reached out to Mantha for a comment, but had not received a response at the time of this release.
