Closure of day care due to lack of workers

A Manitoulin Island community is losing its daycare centre because of a lack of staff.

Gore Bay and Assiginack Day Care Centre spokesperson Andrea Lewis says they have no choice but to shut down the centre in Manitowaning because of staffing shortages.

She says parents have been given a two-week notice of the closure unless they are able to fill the gaps soon.

Lewis says there are eight children in the program right now with another 26 on the waiting list, and there is also another block of 15 children needing before and after school care.

She emphasizes that the centre needs qualified staff, but volunteers are also welcome to help alleviate the situation.

If you have experience working with children and need a job, or maybe have been out of the workforce for a while with your own kids and have been thinking of going back to work, please get in touch with Andrea at [email protected] or (705) 210-0062.
