The president of Pele Mountain says Elliot Lake is the right place for a plant to process rare earth elements. Although little has happened to create such a plant, Al Shefsky continues to believe in the project. Something Pele has to cope with is the falling price of rare earth elements. Despite this Shefsky believes a rare earth processing plant can be built in Elliot Lake. China produces at least 90 percent of the world’s supply of rare earth elements and Pele is trying to create a Canadian base to supply demand. If Pele builds its processing facility, it would use the plant to offset the cost of producing a uranium mine in Elliot Lake.
