The GLOBAL REPORT – shooting in Langley, endorsements and wheat …

Shooting in Langley
Investigators are trying to uncover the motive behind a shooting in Langley, B-C yesterday.
The gunman shot and killed two people, and wounded two others, during a rampage through the town early yesterday morning.
He was shot and killed by officers during a confrontation six hours after the first shots were
fired.
The RCMP say the victims were targeted, but they don’t yet know how they were connected to the gunman.

More funding is needed for disabled
More than 200 groups that advocate for the disabled are calling on the Ford government to double payments under the Ontario Disability Support Program.
In an open letter, the groups say the proposal to increase rates by five per cent isn’t enough to keep up with soaring inflation.
They say social assistance rates have remained stagnant over the past four years and recipients are falling farther below the poverty line.
The coalition says disabled Ontarians now find it impossible to pay for basic needs, such as housing, food, and medicine.

Harper endorses Poilievre
Former Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper says Pierre Poilievre would be the best choice for the party’s next leader.
In a video released on Twitter, Harper says Poilievre was a strong minister in his government and has been the party’s most effective critic in opposition to the Trudeau Liberal government.
The Conservatives have set August 3rd as the date for their final leadership debate but Poilievre has said he won’t attend.
Party members are currently casting their mail-in ballots, with the results to be announced on September 10th.

Grain shipments to resume
Ukrainian officials say grain shipments could resume from its Black Sea ports in the next few days.
That’s despite a Russian missile attack on the port of Odesa on Saturday, just hours after the deal was signed.
Russia and Ukraine will have representatives at a joint coordination centre in Turkey, which will control the shipments.
The Russian blockade has led U-N officials to warn of an impending food catastrophe.
