High speed internet arriving in Manitoulin Island community

A Manitoulin Island community and surrounding area now has high speed Internet.

Eastlink, a local cable provider, has confirmed that its fibre upgrade in Mindemoya is making progress, which will bring high-speed internet to residents and businesses to Mindemoya (MIND-duh-moy-ya) as part of the federal government’s Universal Broadband Fund program.

Eastlink CEO, Jeff Gillham says the need has never been greater especially in the wake of the pandemic.

Central Manitoulin Mayor Richard Stephens agrees adding council and the community are thrilled to see improved connectivity which ultimately strengthens our local economy, providing greater opportunities for the local area.

The company has completed the initial design work, procured fibre networking equipment, and are currently prepping the area, including tree trimming, for the installation of fibre, which is expected to be completed soon.
