A well-respected paramedic from Manitoulin Island has passed away.
Paul Zilio of Gore Bay passed away following a battle with cancer.
Zilio was diagnosed with multiple cancers in February and had to take a leave of absence for treatment.
Well known for his work with the Manitoulin-Sudbury District Services Board, his peers and the people of Manitoulin reached out to assist his family over the last year.
The family was aware that his cancer was terminal.
He succumbed to the disease yesterday.
Funeral plans are being finalized.
