Usually this kind of thing only happens on TV crime shows, but in Sault Ste. Marie, DNA has been used to solve an old robbery. Seven years ago an auto shop was robbed at gunpoint and a man made off with some money. Left behind was a balaclava the man wore and police sent it to the Centre for Forensic Sciences for a DNA analysis. A match couldn’t be made at the time but now the centre scored a hit and identified the man involved in the auto shop robbery. A 28-year-old Sault man is now charged with robbery.
