There was plenty of horn-blowing and cheers supporting a traffic slowdown at the intersection of Highway 6 and 17, all part of National Truth and Reconciliation Day.
Around 80 members of First Nations took part in the Round Circles yesterday acknowledging the importance of reconciliation and held in remembrance of children’s remains found at residential schools.
Organized by the seven members of the Sagamok-Anishnawbek First Nation Youth Council, members of Whitefish River, Serpent River and other first nations took in the afternoon ceremonies.
Members of the Nairn Girl Guide troop also tied orange ribbons along the length of the Spanish River Bridge in Espanola.
And several people took in the commemorative walk at the Espanola complex outdoor circle, where several hundred stones had been painted by students from the local schools and featured positive messages marking the day.
