Espanola trio of women form group for community-based approach to opioid crisis

The Espanola & Area Overdose Epidemic, a group created by a trio of local women; Linda Collins, Carrington LeBlanc-Nelson and Tyana Sandiford, hopes to help alleviate some of the barriers facing addicts in Espanola.

Sandiford says addiction is not just a “big city” problem and it has been affecting and taking too many member of small communities.

She says the group has come together on Facebook to bring awareness of the overdoses in the community and to have people come forward in a community-driven effort to help.

She recognizes there are some resources available but with no local treatment facility, the waiting lists are too long for some.

Sandiford says a warming centre is needed and the group is gathering winter clothing to help with the approaching winter.

She adds they will be approaching council soon seeking support.
