Election wrapup – ballot count and back to business

Ballot count begins today
Returning officers across the country are expected to begin counting almost one-million mail-in ballots cast in Monday’s federal election today and the results could affect 24 ridings where the results are very close.
Nine constituencies in Ontario are too close to call.
Elections Canada officials say they’ll be posting updates on their website to let people know how the counting is going in their constituency.

Back to business please
Business groups are calling on Justin Trudeau to move quickly to implement his promises of support for those affected by COVID-19.
The Canadian Chamber of Commerce says Parliament must get back to work as soon as possible to deal with the problems faced by the business community, which are more urgent now due to the fourth wave sweeping the country.
The Chamber says tourism and the hospitality industries have been hardest hit, and will need more financial assistance through wage subsidies and rent relief.
Restaurants Canada wants more relief from government-awarded loans.
It’s also asking for help in addressing the labour shortage in the industry, by expanding immigration programs to help fill the thousands of job vacancies.
