Cambrian College amends vaccination policy

Cambrian College has amended its vaccination policy for people attending their campuses.

Last week, we reported that the college, College Boreal and Laurentian University had all stated they would not require vaccinations.

However, Cambrian College communications officer, Dan Lessard, says Public Health Sudbury & Districts has shared various concerns that can have an impact on post-secondary institutions which could present unique challenges when it comes to the transmission of COVID-19.

He says those concerns are the lower vaccination rate among people aged 18-29 in Sudbury and area, the higher local COVID case counts for people in this age bracket, the current dominance of the Delta variant of COVID-19 which is more potent, and the communal living settings typical of college and university residences.

Lessard says after careful review Cambrian College has made the decision to make vaccination mandatory for students living in one of our on-campus, student residences, starting this September.

He adds at least one dose of a vaccine will be available on campus this fall.
