Elliot Lake council is expressing caution when it comes to in-person events throughout the summer season, including the annual drag races that take place at the local airport.
Erring on the side of caution, council has decided to cancel this year’s races for the second year in a row.
The event, which attracts thousands of people and dollars, is usually held the middle weekend of August every summer and is one of the largest events hosted in the city.
Councillors noted they are aware of the effect on local business but feel the cancellation is the prudent choice and is looking forward to hosting a safe event in 2022.
