The Ontario Government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, is transitioning a number of regions under the COVID-19 Response Framework, and Public Health Sudbury & Districts will move to Red-Control on Monday, March 8 at 12:01 a.m.
Toronto, Peel and North Bay Parry Sound District public health regions will be moved out of the shutdown and into the revised framework, with the Stay-at-Home order no longer in effect.
In addition, seven other public health regions including Sudbury are being moved to new levels in the Framework. All decisions were made in consultation with the local medical officers of health and are based on the latest trends in public health indicators and local context and conditions.
What moving to Red-Control means for our jurisdiction:
- For all events and social gatherings, the limits are reduced
- Indoor events are limited to five people and outdoor events are limited to 25 people
- For religious events, weddings and funerals, however, the indoor limit is 30 percent capacity.
- The outdoor limit is still 100 people.
The red-control zone also urges residents only to leave home and go out for “essential” reasons.
This includes going to work or school, going out for groceries or pharmacy products, going to health care appointments, helping vulnerable people and getting exercise.
The agency is also reporting another 30 new cases today, one in the Sudbury District, the rest are all in Greater Sudbury.
Considering resolved cases, the number of active cases now totals 154, with an increase of variants of concern from 40 to 54 positives over the last 24 hours.
Public Health Sudbury & Districts has declared a COVID-19 outbreak in Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School (Sudbury Catholic District School Board) in Greater Sudbury after two additional individuals tested positive for the virus. This brings the total cases at the school to three.
Parents and caregivers are being provided notice of the outbreak and will receive public health guidance. Public Health is working closely with the school and school board administrators at Sudbury Catholic District School Board to monitor the outbreak, further limit the spread of infection, and ensure ongoing measures are maintained to protect students and employees. In accordance with provincial guidance, an outbreak in a school setting is declared when two or more laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 are linked and occur within 14 days of each other, and at least one case could have acquired their infection in the school.
The individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 are currently self-isolating and being monitored by Public Health Sudbury & Districts while the investigation continues.
Health Sciences North states it has two admitted patients who are awaiting test results for the virus.
There has been no change in the Algoma District.
There are still only five active cases with one individual in hospital.
