Grants transform Wiikwemkoong greenhouse into four-season operation

Thanks to a financial contribution and a new partnership a greenhouse in Wiikwemkoong is being transformed into a four-season growing operation.
Teams are upgrading a greenhouse at Wikwemikong High through a partnership with Focus Forward for Indigenous Youth and a $30,000 contribution from RBC Future Launch.

Focus Forward national director Caitlin Patterson says becoming a four-season operation means creating a community service to bolster local food supply and provide educational opportunities.

Principal Harold Fox says there are several possibilities from tech shop students creating garden beds to having students work in the greenhouse and earn a co-op credit at the same time.

The retrofit is expected to be completed in time for Spring planting.
