Elliot Lake’s budget will show a 2.57 percent tax hike this year.
This means ratepayers will be assessed an approximate increase of $83 for a home assessed at $95,000 with council providing its reluctant approval earlier this week.
While some councillors felt the budget was bare-boned with few projects going ahead, others acknowledged these are unusual times with COVID-19 and there is enough of a burden on the community.
The hike will bring in an additional $365,000 to cover an increase in insurance premiums and other unforeseen expenditures.
