Final good-bye begins for Manitoulin OPP Constable Marc Hovingh

Visitation and the funeral of a Manitoulin OPP constable will be held over the next two days.

Visitation takes place today from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Mindemoya Missionary Church.

The public who wish to pay their respects is asked to follow COVID-19 protocols by wearing masks and maintaining physical distancing.

OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson says Orillia has arranged to broadcast the funeral tomorrow live on Facebook and VIMEO.

He adds the service is by invitation only and will be held tomorrow at 1:00 pm at Manitoulin Secondary School in M’Chigeeng.

Constable Hovingh died a week ago Thursday in a shooting in Gore Bay, which also resulted in the death of a civilian.

Hovingh, a 28-year veteran of the force and is survived by his wife Lianne and children: Laura, Nathan, Elena, and Sarah.

He was 52.
