Vigils were held and sacred fires lit this weekend in memory of a Manitoulin OPP officer killed in the line of duty late last week.

The Special Investigation Unit says shortly after 11:00 am last Thursday, two Manitoulin OPP officers were conducting a follow-up investigation related to a property dispute.
There was an interaction between a person at the scene and an officer with fatal shots fired and both succumbing to their injuries.

Fifty-two-year-old Constable Marc Hovingh and 60-year-old Gary Brohman of Gore Bay has been identified as the deceased.

Flags are at half-mast and condolences sent to Hovingh’s family from the Prime Minister and MPP Mike Mantha, among many others.
