Espanola Gardeners promoting Orange Tulip Campaign

The Espanola Royal Canadian Legion Branch #39 and the Espanola Gardeners hope to see plenty of orange in flowerbeds throughout the town next Spring.

The two organizations have partnered together to promote the Liberation 75th Tulip Initiative to mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Holland in 1945.

That year, the Dutch royal family sent 100,000 tulip bulbs to Ottawa in gratitude for Canadians having sheltered the future Queen Juliana and her family for the preceding three years during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands in the Second World War.

The Espanola Gardeners have bags of the special orange tulip bulbs available for purchase and planting this fall.

This goal is to plant 1.1 million Liberation 75 tulips across the country, in honour of the 1.1 million Canadians who served during WWII and $1 from every bag sold goes to the Legion.

The Espanola Gardeners have ordered 20 bags (15 bulbs in a bag) and will sell them for $15 per bag. Anyone wishing to purchase a bag to brighten up their flower beds, let Sheila Pope know by October 1st via email at: [email protected].
They will be taking delivery sometime in early October which will give people plenty of time to get them in the ground before winter.
