Ontario’s chief electoral officer says two high-ranking Liberals contravened the Elections Act in connection with a Sudbury by-election. Named in the investigation are Pat Sorbara, the premier’s deputy chief of staff and Sudbury Liberal powerbroker Gerry Lougheed Junior. Former Liberal candidate Andrew Olivier claims Loughheed and Sorbara offered him a job or appointment if he didn’t pursue the nomination. Olivier went public with the alleged bribe, prompting the Elections Ontario investigation. The assistant deputy attorney general now has to decide whether to refer the matter to the OPP. Before the report came out, the OPP were already investigating the allegations of a political bribe.
