Elliot Lake is getting a brand new RONA store following negotiations with the city for five acres of land.
Last night, council gave its stamp of approval to sell a five-acre parcel of municipal land on Highway 108 to Sonnenburg Holdings to make way for a new 15,000 square foot RONA store.
The move will triple the size of the present store and offer a wider choice of goods and services.
Chad Sonnenburg, who has been operating the Elliot Lake RONA since 2008, says their past sales trends and future prospects for Elliot Lake and the region are encouraging and gives him the confidence to make this scale of investment.
Prepping the site will now begin with the new store opening planned for the fall of 2020.
