Sagamok-Anishnawbek First Nation has had to close down its Multi-Educational Centre because of a collapse of the roof cover at the Food Bank entrance and concerns about two other entryways into the building.
This snow load has caused the collapse of the roof cover outside the Food Bank entrance, destabilized the poles supporting the Economic Development entrance and there is substantial snow at the main Espaniel Street entrance.
Fire Chief Bruce Southwind says that work has begun to remove the load.
He says that the snow guards on the roof worked as they were designed, but were unable to keep up with the accumulations.
Southwind adds two entrances should be repaired fairly quickly, but it may take longer for the Food Bank’s entrance to be restored.
The centre has been closed and programs cancelled for the time being.
