Massey area woman needs a liver transplant

A well-known musician and education assistant from the Massey area needs a liver transplant.

According to Leslie Knibbs, his wife, Elizabeth (Beth) Cassidy, has a rare liver disease called Wilson’s disease where the body cannot assimilate copper properly and eventually collects in various causing organ failure.

Knibbs says in Beth’s case, they were able to keep it check for the last 25 years, but on December 22nd, her liver failed.

She is now on medication and waiting a partial or full transplant, if a match is found.

The cost of the medications, over $1,500 a month, and the travel to Toronto is wearing on the family, both physically and financially.

To help them out, a dinner will be held this Saturday at the Massey Legion at 5:00pm.

A Go Fund Me has also been set up by family friend, Peter Cormichan.
