He isn’t just the longest serving mayor in Manitoulin Island history, he is the longest running political leader in Canadian history.
Austin Hunt, will lay down his gavel as Mayor of Billings Township October 22nd, but not before he was feted for his 65 years of service.
The Park Centre was filled with well-wishers on Sunday for his retirement party including MP Carol Hughes and MPP Mike Mantha, among others.
Hunt was presented with paintings, plaques and awards to mark the milestone.
But, don’t expect him to disappear from the public scene, since he plans to continue doing the volunteer work he loves.
