Emily’s scoliosis treatment gets a helping hand

An Espanola five-year old, Emily Shepherd, a happy, Grade 1 student will miss a couple of days of school this month.

Her grandfather, Colin, says his grand-daughter was seen by a specialist at Toronto’s Sick Kids hospital where she was diagnosed with scoliosis, abnormal curvatures of the spine, and in her case, two of them.

Colin says scoliosis is treated with a brace, which Emily will have to wear 24/7.
He says Emily has already been measured for her brace, covered with stars, and will head down to Toronto on October 21st to be fitted for it.

To offset the cost of this and subsequent trips, Espanola Royal Canadian Legion President, Gary MacPherson presented the family with a $500 UPI gift card on Thursday.

Her treatment will be ongoing.
