It hasn’t taken long for accusations to start that the new Elliot Lake council held a secret and illegal meeting. However mayor-elect Dan Marchisella says the rumour is false. Marchisella says he and the new councillors have met but for briefing and orientation purposes. Marchisella says all new councils need to go through these sessions in order to come up to speed on issues before being sworn in. Marchisella also says the new council had nothing to do with extending the contract of the Chief Administration Officer. He says Rob diBartoli, who was to retire October 31st, offered to stay on for a few more months because most of council is new. Marchisella says had diBartoli left when he planned to, the new council would be left with an overwhelming load. He adds by staying on past his original retirement date, diBartoli has done council a big favour.
