Flooding in Massey area … Huron Shores monitors Chevis Road as Dean Lake Bridge remains closed

Highways 554 to 546 from Iron Bridge to Elliot Lake and Highway 553 in the Massey were closed on Saturday due to flooding.
They remain closed as of this morning.
Rising waters and a government official’s flooding advisory have led a local municipality to monitor one of its bridge structures closely.
The Municipality of Huron Shores is monitoring Chevis Road, which is currently the only access route into the Dean Lake community.
The township is assessing the situation because of the temporary closing of the Dean Lake Bridge, which has raised some concerns due to erosion.
With rising river levels and rain, conditions can change quickly, so the municipality has notified residents to be prepared in case Chevis Road becomes impassable, including sufficient supplies of food, water, medications and fuel.
Public Works staff are patrolling the area regularly, and municipal staff is coordinating with Emergency Management Ontario, preparing plans in case conditions worsen.
