Possible strike at Ontario colleges this week

A strike at Ontario’s community colleges is looming this week after the faculty bargaining team requested a ‘no board’ report.
Michelle Arbour, acting chair of the team says once the no board report is issued from the Ministry of Labour, the countdown can begin toward a strike or lockout.
She says OPSEU has made no real progress with the College Employer Council, which represents management.
However, in a release, council CEO Graham Lloyd, says they are shocked with the request for a ‘no-board’ report.
He says they want students to stay in school and that is why they initially proposed binding arbitration and are continuing to urge the union to agree.
Mediation talks were held earlier this month but were unsuccessful.
Despite the possibility of a strike, the parties will meet once more for non-binding mediation on January 6th and 7th, 2025.
