Tehkummah Fire Department awarded grant for new communication equipment

A Manitoulin Island fire department has received a special grant.
The Tehkummah Township Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a special grant for critical communications equipment.
The department is receiving the KENWOOD Cares Grant of $15,000, according to Fire Chief, Jeff Wilson.
He says calls can put the team in a variety of locations that may not have the good reception imperative for safe response.
Wilson adds as well as the increased traffic during the tourist season, they have many campgrounds, motels and natural resource facilities in their service area.
He says the grant will cover the cost of several mobile and portable two-way radios, along with accessories for each unit and two repeaters for increased coverage and reliability, which have all been configured by the team at Spectrum Telecom Group in Sudbury.
Wilson extends a thank you for the vital equipment.
