The saying ” as Hungry as a bear ” is true and Black Bears eat a lot of food especially after coming out of hibernation in the spring or before hibernating in the fall.
Wildlife Rescue Centers works with the Bear With Us Program and one of its biggest supporters, Manitoulin Transport based out of Gore Bay on Manitoulin Island to feed the omnivores.
According to the release, the largest bear rescue centre in Ontario, takes in injured and orphaned black bears who can go through an average of one skid of food a week, one of the biggest expenses when taking care of the animals.
Manitoulin Transport has already delivered 421 skids (210 tons) of food and medical supplies to 23 Wildlife Rescue Centers across Ontario at no charge, and in the last two years has delivered 34 tons (69 skids) of food to help feed the black bears.
The organizations thank the transport company for its continuing support of their programs.
