Pele suffers setback with mine project

It’s a setback for Pele Mountain in Elliot Lake.  The company was trying to build a processing plant to mine rare earth elements and partnered with SKN of China to build the facility.  SKN was to use its proprietary technology to separate the elements but needed Chinese government approval before going ahead.  It couldn’t get that approval before a deadline agreement between Pele and SKN expired.  However Pele president Al Shefsky now plans to talk to other companies about developing a plant in Elliot Lake.  Shefsky adds Pele will also keep talking to SKN.  Pele was hoping to offset the cost of mining low-grade uranium with the rare earth processing plant.
