The GLOBAL REPORT – masks are a good idea

Wear your masks

Our province’s chief medical officer of health is pleading with Ontarians to update their vaccinations, and wear a mask when indoors.

Doctor Kieran Moore is warning that mask mandates may have to return, if COVID-19 numbers continue to rise.

In a series of interviews yesterday, Moore said he’s worried that a surge in COVID infections, plus the coming flu season, could put too much pressure on our health care system over the winter.

He warns the government may have to re-impose requirements for the use of face masks if the situation worsens.

Third officer involved in shooting

The province’s Special Investigations Unit says a third officer was the one who opened fire during a shooting near Innisfil earlier this week that left three people dead.

The S-I-U says it was this officer who exchanged gunfire with the 23-year-old suspect at a home in the town on Tuesday evening.

The two South Simcoe police officers who died in the attack, Constables Devon Northrup and Morgan Russell, reportedly didn’t get a chance to draw their weapons before they were gunned down.

An autopsy is scheduled for today to determine the exact cause of death of the suspect.

Rents are up, way up

For the first time, Canadians are paying an average of more than two-thousand dollars for rental accommodations.

The website, Rentals dot c-a, says its latest report saw the cost of renting a place to live more than 15 per cent higher than a year ago.

The biggest jumps in rent were found in Nova Scotia, B-C, and Ontario.
