Nairn & Hyman debate focuses on highway safety and speed limits

Nairn & Hyman Township constituents have continuing concerns about how many motorists make their way through Nairn Centre at high speeds.

Both the audience and candidates state that something must be done before someone gets seriously hurt.

With Highway 17 running through the centre of town, there is a danger is trying to cross the highway, let alone pull out into traffic.

Candidates all agreed there must be more police enforcement and have promised to look into speed reduction, larger signage and possibly a traffic light to bring traffic to a stop.

Other issues included tourism development, keeping Integrity Commissioner investigations to a minimum, protecting natural spaces and the dilapidation of several properties including the old Busy Bee and the public school.

Baldwin Township constituents will have their turn this evening to listen to candidates with the doors opening at 6 pm at Snoopy’s Place and the Rotary Club in Elliot Lake will host the city debate at 6 pm at the Collins Hall.
