Resurfacing the runway at the Elliot Lake Airport will be taking place by next year.
Elliot Lake’s Economic Development Manager Steve Antunes says the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry will provide $1,545,000 in provincial government funding to pay for the resurfacing of the runway, as part of the Northern Ontario Resource Development Support Fund.
The city will have to cover the shortfall of just over $145,000 and the work would be carried out next year.
Council voted in favour of moving ahead with the work.
