The OEB is not on Facebook

Recent posts on Facebook have led to some concerns from residents in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township and Espanola about possible hydro scams.

The Ontario Energy Board issued a consumer alert warning to the public about emails, and now Facebook postings that are not endorsed nor affiliated with them on qualifying or applying for government energy rebates.

According to the release, the Ontario Electricity Support Program does not have a Facebook page and any Facebook page is not endorsed by or related to the OEB in any way.

In addition, fake emails typically include a link to an “application form” for these rebates that requires the consumer to schedule a home energy assessment.

The OEB says a home energy assessment is not required to apply for administered energy bill payment assistance program.

It should be noted that North Bay Hydro, the utility that is in the process of taking over Espanola Hydro and is conducting a phone survey for delivery of services in the local communities but does not include rebate programming.
