Several rides for several causes held this weekend

The roar of motorcycles was heard throughout the weekend on Highway 17 from Sudbury to Elliot Lake and Manitoulin Island.

There were three separate fundraisers this weekend, the Marc Hovingh Memorial Ride, the Ryleigh’s Ride in Memory of Johnny and the Sudbury Law Enforcement Torch Ride.

The Hovingh ride had riders take in a circular route around Manitoulin Island in memory of Manitoulin OPP Constable Marc Hovingh who was killed in the line of duty last year.

Funds raised went to the OPP Youth Foundation.

The Ryleigh ride was held in memory of Ryleigh Valcourt’s father, Johnny, who passed away in May with funds going to Toronto’s Sick Kids.

The Torch ride was held to raise funds for Special Olympics.

In all, it is estimated nearly 200 motorcycles and nearly 350 riders/passengers took part in all three events.

Three different rides were held for three different causes this weekend with all three taking in Manitoulin Island as their destination. Photos provided by Mike Mantha, Steve Hunt, the OPP Youth Association, and Township of Assignack with permissions.
