Elliot Lake council is continuing its work on the 2021 municipal budget. Until that happens, the writing of certain cheques will not be taking place.
Until the budget is passed, council has agreed to suspend the operations of the Elliot Lake Residential Development Corporation.
Councillor Chris Patrie told council a budget was supposed to be brought forward in May, but that did not happen, and they can’t spend any money under the Elliot Lake Act with the Ontario government.
Mayor Dan Marchisella also points out the commission will not have a quorum until September.
He adds there have been no properties sold in over a year and COVID-19 made it difficult for people to get together but stresses the budget is of top importance.
Council voted unanimously on the motion to suspend operations of the commission until a budget is adopted for 2021.
