Swimmer in Assiginack Township passes away

After responding to a distressed swimmer call in Assiginack Township, Ontario Provincial Police report the person has died. 

The Manitoulin OPP reports a couple was staying at a camp on Watersedge Lane when both went swimming Monday night and one went underwater and didn’t resurface.  

The person was recovered and taken to hospital in Little Current. 

Police say the 64-year-old Waterloo resident was pronounced deceased at the hospital.  

The investigation is ongoing. 

A post-mortem is scheduled at a later date under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS).
