Laurentian University back in court, rally and vigil in the works

A car rally and candlelight vigil are planned for today, the deadline for Laurentian University to get its restructuring plan approved.

It is also the last day of work for dozens of staff who received pink slips on April 12th.

A fleet of vehicles will depart from Bell Park to the downtown area to protest the loss of programs and jobs and a vigil will be held on the Bridge of Nations in Sudbury beginning at dusk.

Laurentian was back in court yesterday asking for a stay of proceedings for at least four months and an additional $10-million dollars in funding.

Today is the deadline as set by the judge, but university president Robert Haché says more time is needed to assess the real estate assets and to put forward a Plan of Arrangement for creditors.
